The burgeoning elderly population in the United States requires increasing healthcare time and resources, because disabling chronic disease is replacing acute illness as the primary cause of morbidity and mortality among this age-group. As the primary care physician's geriatric case load increases, comprehensive evaluation of the elderly patient assumes ever greater importance. Dr Rousseau here outlines a means of performing a thorough biopsychosocial evaluation of these patients.
