Abstract
This and the next three articles in this series follow the patient through major life stages and address nutritional issues at each stage. Information is drawn from current research on nutrition, health promotion, and disease prevention. Special needs and general dietary habits of different age- groups, as well as vitamin, mineral, and energy requirements, are discussed. The goal of the series is to guide the clinician in advising a sound diet and assigning appropriate dietary supplementation so the patient will be spared nutrition-related risks associated with his or her age-group.
