Many athletes follow a strict and rigorous schedule of sporting activities today, and they are usually impatient to resume their schedule when it is interrupted. Infectious mononucleosis requires a period of inactivity, even after signs and symptoms of the infection have abated, because of accompanying splenomegaly and possible splenic rupture.
