Most persons with diverticular disease have no symptoms, but complications can occur, causing pain and necessitating treatment. How common is diverticular disease in the community setting? In a retrospective review of hospital records, Dr Bingley and Mr lung examined the prevalence and severity of this common “disorder of civilization.” Their findings are presented in this article.
