Relative and absolute polycythemia

Every patient with polycythemia presents with an increased red cell count and elevated hematocrit level. In some instances the total red cell mass is increased, and in others it is not. Dr Silverstein therefore describes the characteristics that differentiate the various forms of the condition and suggests appropriate management for each.
