A comprehensive approach to treatment

The goal in treating alcohol withdrawal is to prevent the development of severe symptoms that can lead to complications and prolonged hospitalization. Prompt, well-monitored sedation with a long-acting benzodiazepine can bring success. However, treatment does not end with detoxification. Dr Daghestani stresses the role of the physician in educating the patient and family and in aftercare planning.
