Human bites are a relatively common injury seen in emergency departments today. Proper treatment requires knowledge of the anatomic structures involved and of the bacteriologic spectrum, as well as a healthy respect for the serious sequelae. Dr Martin provides this necessary information and reviews the best course of action and the most effective drug regimens for treating both noninfected and infected bite wounds. He emphasizes the importance of close follow-up and early rehabilitation.
