Temporary cardiac pacing may be appropriate in a variety of clinical situations. Although it has been considered primarily a therapeutic measure, it also has diagnostic applications. In this article, Dr Bartecchi examines the indications for temporary cardiac pacing and, drawing from his experience, discusses evaluation of patients being considered for temporary pacing.
