Febrile seizures

When is treatment justified?

The primary care physician may ponder the advisability of anticonvulsant prophylaxis for a child who has had a febrile seizure. Because of confusion regarding the prognosis for these children—particularly the possibility of subsequent epilepsy—Dr Kaplan reviews current knowledge on the subject in an effort to clarify what, if any, treatment should be given and when.
