Total shoulder replacement has progressed to the point where, as in total hip replacement, good results can be reliably achieved. Today, nonconstrained designs that simulate normal shoulder anatomy offer joint stability, pain relief, and maximum range of motion. Mr Manno and Dr Friedman briefly discuss the types of prostheses available, the indications for and considerations governing shoulder replacement, and the results and complications of surgery.
