When renal colic is really malingering

Renal colic is popular among malingerers because it can so easily be simulated. In most cases, the malingerer's primary goal is to acquire parenteral narcotics. How can these manipulative patients be identified? What should you do when you suspect a patient may be faking renal symptoms? This article describes a case of renal colic malingering and suggests guidelines for management.
