Ultrasound for the primary care physician

Applications in family-centered obstetrics

Ultrasound is a valuable diagnostic tool but is usually performed in a special laboratory rather than in the primary care physician's office. Recent discussions on the use of ultrasound by the family physician suggest that office-based ultrasound may be an important diagnostic approach in obstetric and gynecologic care. The authors of this article discuss the issues involved in such an approach and present case reports illustrating its applications.
