When to suspect antithrombin III, protein C, or protein S deficiency

Not infrequently, patients present with thromboembolic disease that has no obvious cause. These patients are often young and otherwise healthy; however, clinical findings and the history may suggest a deficiency in plasma proteins that help regulate hemostasis. In this article, Dr Scott provides an insight into the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of three plasma protein deficiencies.
