Treatment of constipation in the elderly

Elderly persons often complain of constipation and usually have a pet remedy. These traditional cures, such as mineral oil and prunes, may be effective but can create additional problems. Dr Rousseau explains the causes of constipation, its management without cathartics, and choice of a laxative when its use cannot be avoided.
