Infertility is a growing problem in the United States. In about one third of infertile women, ovulatory dysfunction is the underlying cause. The primary care physician who understands this disease process will know when to suspect anovulation, how to document it, and what steps to follow in patient evaluation. The authors of this article describe an orderly approach to patient evaluation and discuss the use of both conventional and newer ovulation-inducing agents.
