The toll exacted by influenza each year in the United States is needlessly burdensome. According to Dr Douglas, primary care physicians can lighten the burden considerably by incorporating some practical strategies for control into their office practices. In this article, he explains how, why, and when vaccination and amantadine (Symmetrel) therapy should be used to ward off or minimize an influenza outbreak.
