Mitral valve prolapse is a common hut highly variable syndrome. Some patients with mitral prolapse are asymptomatic, while other persons with “typical symptoms” are found to be normal. Thus, as Dr Schmidt explains, the diagnostic challenge is to perform a careful examination to avoid misinterpreting symptoms. This article provides an update on this usually benign abnormality.
