Does antibiotic prophylaxis help?

Posttraumatic meningitis may occur in up to 25% of patients with basilar skull fracture, and administration of antibiotics has been proposed to prevent this complication. Some studies support this practice bat others challenge it The authors present the results of their own retrospective study of patients seen in a large clinic during a nine-year period.
