Bulimia nervosa

Uncovering a secret disorder

The number of people who are struggling with bulimia nervosa is hard to calculate, since many are able to hide the binging and purging that define this disorder. Some researchers think that up to 19% of female college students may be affected. An alert primary care physician can recognize the disorder and get the patient started on treatment if he or she is familiar with the sociocultural, psychological, and medical features of the disorder, as discussed by the authors.
