Immunization of the elderly

A vital part of routine healthcare

Of the six vaccines currently recommended for adults, three have profound implications for the elderly: influenza vaccine, pneumococcal vaccine, and tetanus-diphtheria toxoid. Their use, however, remains sporadic and inadequate despite clear and emphatic recommendations. This timely article promotes a renewed commitment by the medical profession for a consistent approach to routine immunization of all elderly patients.
