Hearing loss affects not only a person's relationships with family and friends but his or her livelihood and quality of life as well. Identification of hearing loss is usually the responsibility of the primary care physician, who must then determine the need for treatment or referral. With the hearing aids and technology available today, virtually all hearing-impaired persons can be helped and thus can live a more normal life.
