Activities such as needlepoint, driving a car, and playing the piano can all precipitate the wrist discomfort known as carpal tunnel syndrome. In this condition, the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the narrow passage between wrist and hand. Fortunately, simple diagnostic tests are available and conservative therapy is often adequate. Dr Greenspan explains how and why the syndrome develops and gives his recommendations for treatment.
