The elderly have many of the same diseases as younger persons, but these diseases often become apparent in a different way. Normal aging also increases the risk of certain types of disease and of therapeutic complications. In this article, Drs Perlman and Adams review the physiologic changes that are involved in aging and offer tips for diagnosing and treating disease in elderly patients.
