Although declining in incidence, post-myocardial infarction pericarditis is still seen occasionally. The syndrome may be early or delayed in onset and must be differentiated from other possible causes of chest pain. Treatment is generally limited to relief of pain. Dr Holloway describes a severe case in a patient who eventually underwent cardiac transplantation.
