The benefits of combined therapy for hypertension

Half of patients with mild to moderate hypertension achieve control with use of a single therapeutic agent, but the remainder may, for various reasons, have better luck with a combination regimen. Treatment with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor and a thiazide diuretic is well tolerated and offers a number of valuable advantages over monotherapy and perhaps over other combinations as well, as discussed by Dr Ruoff.
