Hand weakness in elderly patients can be a diagnostic challenge. Not only is the hand anatomically complex, but the nerves supplying the hand must pass through areas of the shoulder and arm where they can easily be injured. The challenge is compounded by the fact that the patient's complaints are often nonspecific. How should you approach diagnosis of hand weakness? Dr Massey presents an anatomic approach that is useful in differentiating the many neurologic causes.
