Gaining control of a growing epidemic

Chlamydial infections are rapidly reaching epidemic proportions. Attempts at control are hindered by the vast number of undiagnosed cases in asymptomatic women, particularly sexually active adolescents. Only by being aware of the prevalence and morbidity of chlamydial infections can primary care physicians aggressively identify and treat affected patients, thus reducing the toll in economic costs and personal suffering.
