A number of diseases affect the skin, causing itching, pain, or burning but no visible lesions. Some of these diseases may be difficult to diagnose simply because the physician is not familiar with them. Others require extensive workup and perhaps referral to a dermatologist for evaluation. In this article, Dr Wooldridge discusses some of the more common diseases that cause dermatologic symptoms but no signs.
