Age-related physiologic changes, especially in liver and kidney function, can influence the action and effects of drugs. Thus, drug dosages in the elderly need to be carefully evaluated and modified to ensure best results. In this article, Dr Buechler and Mr Malloy explain these changes and discuss the appropriate use and limitations of drugs that are commonly prescribed for the geriatric population.
