Americans spend billions of dollars each year on medical products and treatments that are unproved, ineffective, and, in some cases, harmful. Primary care physicians are in a unique position to spot fraudulent medical products and to educate patients about their use and abuse. The authors describe some of the latest fraudulent medical devices available and offer tips on recognizing health fraud and taking appropriate action against it.
