Chickenpox (ie, varicella) during pregnancy is usually benign, but there are a few significant exceptions. The possibility of complications, fetal or perinatal infection, and mortality varies with the onset and severity of the disease. Dr Rosenfeld reviews the clinical manifestations of varicella in the general population and discusses the specific risks for pregnant women and infants.
