A new TSH assay

Serum thyrotropin (TSH) levels are a sensitive marker of thyroid gland function. Recent advances in monoclonal antibody generation have led to a more accurate test to measure TSH levels—immunoradiometric assay. In this article, Dr Bansal reviews the background information essential to use this test effectively (eg, how the level of TSH is regulated physiologically, how assays measure hormone levels), the best uses for the test, and limitations of TSH testing.
