Subacute thyroiditis is a diagnostic puzzle. In its hypothyroid and hyperthyroid stages, it can easily be confused with Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease, respectively. Moreover, whether painless thyroiditis and postpartum thyroiditis are entities separate from painful thyroiditis is not clear. In this article, Dr Felicetta pieces the puzzle together in terms of diagnosis, treatment, and etiology.
