Older patients with hyperthyroidism often lack many of the typical symptoms that are seen in younger patients. This can lead to a fruitless search for other conditions, particularly occult neoplasm. Dr Weiss describes the case of an elderly woman who denied having any of the classic symptoms of thyrotoxicosis and in whom physical examination was inconclusive.
