Cecal carcinoma presenting as acute appendicitis

Because appendicitis may signal colon cancer in elderly patients, carcinoma should be included in the differential diagnosis in any patient over 40 years of age with symptoms of acute appendicitis. Dr Foss describes the case of a woman with such symptoms in whom cecal carcinoma was found prior to laparotomy.
