Is a dilated inguinal ring a good predictor of a hernia?

Although a causal relationship may exist between a dilated external inguinal ring and hernia, often there is no association at all. Dr Greenburg explains why one can exist without the other and also describes a posterior approach to groin herniorrhaphy that has been eminently successful.
