Dr Schmidt answers several commonly asked questions regarding the benefits to cardiovascular disease of treating hypercholesterolemia, the reliability of screening tests, and methods of reducing lipid levels. A reasonably firm consensus, as summarized in this article, has been reached on many points and should provide physicians with a rational framework for patient care.
