Blindness or sudden death may be the consequence in severe cases of Marfan syndrome, a hereditary connective tissue disorder that affects the ocular, skeletal, and cardiovascular systems. Because of the potentially disastrous complications, early diagnosis and proper management are important factors in prolonging the patient's life span. In this article, the authors discuss the varying clinical manifestations, management, and possible biochemical explanations for this disorder and also present an illustrative case history.
