Numerous studies indicate that high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is an important factor in assessing the risk of coronary artery disease—perhaps more important than total cholesterol or even low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Dr Lavie and his colleagues make a strong case for measuring HDL-C in adults and for treating most patients with low levels.
