In-office evaluation with diagnostic triad

A frightened woman who has discovered a lump in her breast wants an immediate diagnosis. Fortunately, as Dr Hindle describes, proper use of examination, aspiration, and mammography can usually put the patient's fears to rest in the initial office visit. He provides a clinical algorithm to follow in a patient with a breast mass and summarizes the American Cancer Society recommendations for breast examination and mammography.
