Nondrug treatment options for primary care physicians

Patients with panic disorder and agoraphobia may seek help from their primary care physician. Routine referral to a psychiatrist is not necessary in most cases. According to Dr Ferentz, primary care physicians are in an ideal position to treat the disorder successfully without the expense and potential risks of long-term pharmacotherapy. He also recommends books and other self-help resources for these patients.
