Parents who bring in a child with hematuria are usually worried and thinking the worst. They want a diagnosis made quickly, even though hematuria may originate from any point in the upper or lower urinary tract and be caused by a variety of disorders, from renal disease to overexercise. The authors provide a summary of diagnostic steps to take that will efficiently rule out possible causes with use of the fewest tests.
