Doppler echocardiography is a rapid and noninvasive procedure that can assess cardiac valve function as well as other important cardiac processes. The authors provide detailed flowcharts to guide decision making in diagnosis and treatment of valve disease. They also furnish illustrative examples from both two-dimensional and Doppler studies that show the typical echocardiographic appearance of the disorders discussed.
