Amphotericin B (Fungizone) has the broadest spectrum of any currently available antifungal agent, is fungicidal, and has a rapid onset of action. Thus, there is rarely a question as to whether it is indicated for treatment of a life-threatening fungal infection. However, clinicians are likely to be concerned about its adverse effects. Dr Sarosi reviews available methods of minimizing such effects and suggests dosing regimens for individual fungal diseases.
