Young people are universally unimpressed with warnings about what the sun does to the skin, but photodamage causes about 90% of the effects we see as aging. Dr Burke gives tips on preventing sun damage and describes additional methods of avoiding wrinkle formation. She also explains how small wrinkles can be reversed with exfoliation, topical tretinoin (Retin-A), or topical alpha hydroxy acids and large wrinkles can be filled in with soft-tissue implants. As the colored illustrations show, results of treatment are often dramatic.
