At one time, diabetic patients were given a complicated diet that prohibited virtually all sugar, and elderly patients were not seriously expected to bring their blood glucose levels down to normal. All that has changed. Dr Felicetta provides an overview of current thinking on management of diabetes and explains the progression from diet to oral hypoglycemic to insulin therapy as needed in the elderly to accomplish blood glucose control.
