Mycoplasmal pneumonia can present with a variety of clinical and laboratory findings. Diagnosis may be complicated by an atypical presentation and by extrapulmonary manifestations, which occur in about one third of patients. Drs Stogner and Anderson provide valuable insights into recognition and treatment of this common atypical pneumonia in their discussion of two cases that illustrate the varied aspects of infection with Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
