Syphilis is again a significant and prevalent disease, and its resurgence has come at a time when many physicians have had little experience with or interest in it. Fortunately, penicillin is still curative, but first the disease must be distinguished from its many imitators. Dr Wooldridge examines the societal problems associated with the current upswing in syphilis rates and discusses diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
