An unusual cause of a sore throat

Sore throat, usually related to pharyngitis, is a common presenting symptom in the primary care setting. Drs Frenkel and Lyons describe a case showing that physicians need to be aware of another, puzzling cause—spontaneous pneumomediastinum.
