Clues to the cause

The incidence of Alzheimer's disease increases dramatically in older persons, with a peak among those in their 80s. At present, age is the only well-established risk factor, although other demographic features and environmental, genetic, and biochemical influences are being studied. Drs Gorelick and Bózzola review current knowledge that may help in the search for a definitive cause of this enigmatic disease.
